FROM THE INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK…
“This unique work was born out of a deep love between two people, who found themselves on a healing journey together in which they had to confront the polarity dynamics in their own relationship. We, Andreea & John were already working with astrology and theatre and naturally began acting out the characteristics of the planets as a way of trying to express the powerful feelings we were experiencing. In doing so, we found ourselves confronting the tensions and conflicts in our own relationship. In the process of enacting these astrological scenes, we found that the spirit of the planets was starting to move through us in extraordinary ways. !rough movement and play, the words of the planets began to come through, and the vivid images and metaphors were so compelling that they soon began to take shape in the form of the dialogues that are presented here…
Drawing inspiration from myth and ancient wisdom traditions, the dialogues introduce a rich array of astrological metaphors and perennial truths. The felt sense of this can help elucidate the meanings of the planetary archetypes, as they relate to the mythological themes of the characters they represent. Because they trade in the dynamics of polarity and paradox, the interactions between the planet characters display a playful humour that helps relieve the affliction in the opposition, and bring them into balance and towards wholeness.
There are nine dialogues in all, eight of which address contrary perspectives that exist between planets that have opposite natures, and a ninth, to soothe the soul, between two planets who enjoy a more harmonious relationship.
You will meet the luminaries: Sol, whose golden light inspires the life force, and Luna, who casts her silvery reflections upon the soul. You will meet Mercury the quick-witted messenger, who grants the gift of language, and trades in sharp tricks and crafty turns; Venus whose magnetic beauty and sweet scent awakens the power of love and binds us in relationship; Mars, the warrior whose drive and will give us energy and direction. You will meet Jupiter, the Light Bringer and Saturn, the Lord of Time. These two give form to our moral life, and grant us a sense of meaning and purpose. And the outer planets too: Uranus, the radical revolutionary; Neptune, the mystic dreamer; and Pluto, who draws us into the shadowlands and the depths of the soul.
Woven into each dialogue is the voice of Gaia, the animating soul-force of the Earth, our home. It’s her task to witness, mediate, assimilate and alchemise the polarised perspectives of the planetary characters, to steady the dance of oppositional forces that draw us together and pull us apart. She has the final word. She holds all their voices in her vast body, reminding us that these archetypes are not distant gods, but living forces within our own beating hearts. And she is the ground where the celestial becomes human, where love and struggle, death and renewal, all find their place, finely balanced, within the ever-turning wheel of life.
The dialogues are written in rhyming verse, and they possess a musicality, which seems to have a meditative effect on the listener. Having developed this into a stage performance, those who have witnessed the theatrical embodiment of the astrological archetypes portrayed in this book report having felt a deep connection with the planetary energies.”
